The book series Trajectories of Gender, Cultures and Social Change in the Middle East explores the evolving dynamics of gender and cultural transformation in the region, addressing an underrepresented and untapped area of scholarship. The series uses Middle East as a geopolitical and cultural yeahreferent while remaining attentive to internal heterogeneity, border dynamics, and transregional flows. Moving beyond simplistic narratives and binaries of oppression and resistance, it examines gender in relation to power, identity, embodiment, tradition, memory, and social change. Covering historical and contemporary perspectives, the series includes themes such as feminist movements, masculinity studies, marginalised identities, digital activism, and the intersections of gender with class, race, and religion. It adopts a multidisciplinary approach, integrating insights from a variety of disciplines, including, but not limited to, sociology, semiotics, history, anthropology, media, Middle Eastern studies, memory studies, gender and women’s studies, international relations, and cultural studies. By prioritizing empirical research as well as theoretical discussions, the series will appeal to both academia and broader audiences, including policymakers, practitioners and professionals. Trajectories of Gender, Cultures and Social Change in the Middle East serves as a vital platform for innovative scholarship that challenges dominant narratives and deepens our understanding of gendered transformations in the region.
